Investigating the effect of seasonality of birth for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia
نویسنده
چکیده
The investigation of the seasonality of a disease is an important objective in many epidemiological studies. Two statistical methods (Edwards' and Walter-Elwood methods) are described here to detect cyclic trends in time of birth of children diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) aged 0 4 year . We found evidence of seasonality related to month of birth with peaks in February and August. Both peaks correspond to previous findings and could reflect the seasonality of infectious diseases in temperate climates: respiratory virus infections (for example, influenza) show marked seasonality occurring in the winter months, and gastrointestinal infections peaks in the summer months.

Gene variants of CYP1A1 and CYP2D6 and the risk of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukaemia; outcome of a case control study from Kashmir, India
Studies on associations of various polymorphisms in xenobiotic metabolizing genes with different cancers including acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) are mixed and inconclusive. The current study analyzed the relationship between polymorphisms of phase I xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes, cytochromes P450 1A1 (CYP1A1) and CYP2D6 and childhood ALL in Kashmir, India. We recruited 200 confirmed ALL...

Background: Immunophenotypic characterization of the leukemic cells has been widely used as a tool for diagnosis, classification, stratification and prognosis of leukaemia. Objective: To investigate the immunophenotypic subtype profiles of Iranian patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and its association to disease outcome. Methods: In this study, a total of 60 Iranian patients with ...

Abstract Background and Objectives Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a hematological malignancy of lymphoid lineage. Side effects of chemotherapy drugs is a major reason for the tendency to use Herbal medicines. Previous studies on Juniperus excelsa (J.excelsa) have shown anti-cancer properties on some cancer cell lines. This study aimed to investigate the effect of three fractions of J.excelsa ...

Objective(s): microRNAs are small non-coding molecules that regulate gene expression in various biological processes. T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) is a malignancy accompanied with genetic aberrations and accounts for 20% of children’s and adult’s ALL. Notch signaling pathway dysregulation occurs in 60% of T-ALL cases. In the present study, we aimed to de...
